Can it wait for a bit? I'm in the middle of some calibrations.
Fever Dreams

ME2 Kate Shepard
My husband and I have both been sick with the flu since this past weekend. I'm still exhausted and achy, but at least my fever broke last night. Blarg! Thankfully, the flu was the kind without the vomit and other fun stuff. I just had the coughing, aches, stuffy and runny nose. Anyway, I've been muddling around in a drug and fever-induced stupor. What better thing to do than play a video game? Luckily, the Dragon Age II came out yesterday. Here's some screen shots of my character Gwen Hawke.

There may be a few minor spoilers, but nothing that you really need to worry about.

Gwen (in front) and her sister Bethany. I went for the gamine look for Gwen.

You're going to have to forgive me as I spam pictures of Flemeth. I adore everything about her—hairstyle, armor, attitude, voice (yay, Kate Mulgrew!). She's beyond awesome and I hope she appears again later in the game. She has to, right? Otherwise, why go through all that effort on her character design.

Flemeth's looks have changed a lot since the first game. It makes me wonder if she presents herself differently to different people. She is a shape-changer after all.

Her armor/outfit is so amazing. I wish Gwen could wear it. Although, she probably wouldn't look as awesome in it as Flemeth.

Waif!gwen ;)

Aveline and Gwen. I'm really loving Aveline so far; she reminds me of a Valkyrie. It's so romantic how much she loves her husband, but so very sad too. :(

The girls. :)

Prince Sebastian Vael hanging a work order on the Chantry board. He wants revenge on the people who murdered his family.

I think he's the best looking male character that I've encountered in the game so far. He has a sexy voice too—hint of a Scottish brogue.

Ships that pass in the night, and speak each other in passing;
Only a signal shown and a distant voice in the darkness;
So on the ocean of life we pass and speak one another,
Only a look and a voice; then darkness again and a silence.

~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The crew (from left to right): Bethany, Varric, Gwen, and Aveline.

The crew picked up Fenris last night too. It's interesting how different elves look in this game as compared to the first Dragon Age.

Gwen's not quite sure what to think of Fenris yet. She doesn't appreciate people manipulating her.

Found Anders too, but haven't gotten him to join the party yet. I got tired and went to bed. ;)

I know, right?! I'm having so much fun with it! I take it you're playing Lady Hawke too? Do you know who you're going to have her romance yet? I've not decided yet who I want Gwen to go after.

I hope it gets there soon! It sucks that Europe doesn't get the game until tomorrow. :(

I went for fenris =\ MAN he has a sexy voice!!!
Mar.14th.2011 04:54 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I decided to go for him too because of his voice. ♥ I'm still in Act 2 of the game though.

I'm having a blast with the game. I hope your hubby is still enjoying it! :)

Just curious..how do you manage to snap screenshots from games like this one or ME? Do you have your console hooked up through your computer?
Mar.17th.2011 04:47 am (UTC)
I'm playing these games on my computer, actually. I use Fraps to take the pictures.
Mar.18th.2011 04:23 am (UTC)
Oh! okay, gotcha. I was just curious. I used to hook up my old xbox to my computer before I ever knew anything about screencapturing..but anyway, the pictures are great!

By the way, this is Christina from thevintagesim.blogspot.com or I used to have taleofthesim (blog) lol! I know you probably don't recognize either but I have left some comments on your stories and such at your Worlds Apart site :)

I secretly wish you would begin writing again *o* You're one of my biggest inspirations.

Hi! Yes, I remember you. :) And, thank you so much for the kind words.

I've been considering how to continue my story. I'm not sure I want to re-install Sims 2 (the sims games have been annoying me lately, and I haven't reinstalled either Sims 2 or Sims 3 since I got a new computer in December), but I don't know if there would be much interest if the story didn't have pictures. Plus, it would really bug me, I think, if I switched to strictly text form half-way through the story (I like things to be symmetrical). I probably should just bite the bullet and reinstall the game. haha As you can tell, I'm not sure what direction to take yet. I do really want to finish the story though.

Oh of course. No problem. :)

I understand. The Sims..well, as much as I love the game, for me, it's so sensitive and finicky. The slightest issue with cc sends it right over the edge. Sometimes, I'm half tempted to throw my discs off my balcony (don't tell 'em I said that, they're likely to produce scratches on their own or go into hiding so I could never play again).

There's something kind of invigorating about reinstalling though, I think. It's always that feeling of starting anew, a fresh new palette to put your colors on sort of thing. I should know; I have reinstalled at least 7 times over the last 10 years. Plus, if you haven't played in a while, there's ample amounts of excellent content out there for storytellers. :)

hope all is well and that you're feeling well!

Oh my this game is gorgeous. o.O
*sound of jaw dropping*

Do you recommend this game for folks who haven't played the first game?
Mar.21st.2011 05:29 pm (UTC)
It really is a pretty game. And, no, you don't have to have played the first game to play this one. This game has a completely new character. There are references to events in the first game, and you can import a save from the previous game to reflect choices that you made, but it's not like Mass Effect where it's a continuation of a character's story. :)
Mar.28th.2011 05:26 pm (UTC)
I wonder if there's an online database of "saves" that people have uploaded for DragonAge like they do for Mass Effect? I like having options.

This is very VERY tempting. The guys in this game are just so very pretty, and I can't stop staring at the graphics. I think I may give in and buy the damn thing already. There go my plans for working out this week. Can't exercise. Playing.

Btw. Are you going to download Arrival?
Mar.29th.2011 06:00 pm (UTC)
I've found a few saves at Dragon Age Nexus (look for files that say "import"), but I've not found a site dedicated solely to import saves.

If you're really interested in the game, I recommend waiting until Bioware releases their first major patch. There are so many bugs you'd think it was a Sims game—some of them are even game-breaking. Some people have discovered work-arounds or have released band-aid patches, but it's kind of lame that a Bioware game went live with this many bugs.

As for Arrival, I will of course download it as I'm a slave to anything Mass Effect (in fact, it's downloading even as I type this XD ), but I've not been really excited by the teasers or trailers that I've seen. Maybe it's the fact that this DLC is supposed to be more combat-focused. I like story-driven games. If I wanted combat-focused games, I'd play an FPS. And, I can't believe that you don't get to take your team members along with you. It's going to feel lonely. I know the team members usually don't have much to say (unlike in the Dragon Age games where they actually chat amoungst each other a lot, kind of like the elevator scenes in ME ), but at least it felt like they had your back.

Anyway, maybe it will be better than I think.

I think I will end up buying it when the patch comes out. But for now I have ME2 and pretty pretty Thane to look at. So pretty.mmmm

I'm getting Arrival too. Its about halfway downloaded as of now.

I'm determined to be optimistic about it . All the teasers and reviews I've seen so far are of the first 2 missions, and the later ones get more story based... That's what they say anyhow.

*fingers crossed* I have the nagging fear that this mission ensures Shepard is indoctrinated and Kaidan/Ashley have to kill Shepard in ME3. GOD, I hope not!

I should probably tell you that I'm rereading your story at Worlds Apart. It just inspires me and I love it. So, thank you <3
